Satish Kumar is a peace-pilgrim, life-long activist, and former Jain monk who has inspired global change for over 50 years. At the age of 9, he renounced material life to become a wandering monk, and in his early 20s, he embarked on an 8,000-mile peace pilgrimage—walking without money from India to the capitals of nuclear powers, meeting figures such as Bertrand Russell and Martin Luther King Jr.
Satish has dedicated his life to ecological regeneration, social justice, and spiritual well-being. He is the founder of Schumacher College and The Resurgence Trust, an educational charity that publishes the long-running Resurgence & Ecologist magazine. As its editor for over four decades, Satish became the UK’s longest-serving magazine editor, and continues to contribute as Editor Emeritus.
A celebrated international speaker and the author of ten books—including No Destination, Soil, Soul, Society, and Radical Love—Satish invites us to embrace a life of simplicity, compassion, and interconnectedness.
He is a Visiting Fellow and the recipient of the 2022 Goi Peace Prize. Now in his 80s, Satish remains a tireless voice for the Earth, offering wisdom drawn from a life lived in service to peace, purpose, and the planet.
