Christa Mackinnon
Psychologist | Therapist | Author
Christa Mackinnon is a psychologist, author, and internationally experienced trauma specialist. Originally trained in social psychology at Berlin University, she later became a family counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist, focusing for over 25 years on complex trauma, child abuse, and emotional wellbeing across Europe, Asia, and Africa. She held academic roles including course director for an MSc-level training in clinical hypnotherapy and remains an honorary fellow at the University of Exeter Medical School.
Christa’s lifelong interest in consciousness and healing led her to apprentice with indigenous shamans in Mexico and Ecuador. Following a near-death illness, she shifted her focus to integrating shamanic approaches with therapeutic work. She now runs courses and workshops for professionals and the public, and is the author of three books: Shamanism and Spirituality in Therapeutic Practice, Shamanism: Awaken and Develop the Shamanic Force Within (Hay House, 2016), and a practitioner’s workbook.
Deeply committed to feminine empowerment and spiritual activism, she co-founded Women Weaving Change and its Modern Medicine Woman Training School. She contributed to Psychedelic Mysteries of the Feminine and is currently writing a new book on the feminine. Christa also co-founded Sacred Earth Activism, a movement that combines spiritual principles with concrete ecological and social action.
