Alexandra Gavilano
Activist | Visionary | Catalyst
Alexandra Gavilano is a Swiss-Peruvian environmental scientist, climate activist, and catalyst for transformative change. With a background in sociology and environmental sciences, Alexandra has built a career at the intersection of science, activism, and grassroots organizing. She has conducted research on climate change adaptation, land and water management, and sustainability at the University of Bern and currently leads projects on agriculture and climate at Greenpeace Switzerland.
A passionate advocate for systemic change, Alexandra is co-founder of multiple initiatives including fossil-free.ch, Environmental Platform UP, RootsCamp, Pyrolysis GmbH, and Music Declares Emergency Switzerland. She has played a central role in Switzerland’s environmental movement since 2010, and was an observer at COP21 in Paris with CliMates.
Her work centers on empowering individuals and communities, promoting regenerative culture, horizontal leadership, and democratic decision-making. She is deeply committed to environmental justice, climate resilience, and the urgent shift away from fossil fuels. Alexandra believes in the power of collaboration, creativity, and courage to reshape our relationship with the planet.
She continues to speak out in national and international arenas, reminding us: “Whether in farmers’ fields or on our melting glaciers, the climate crisis is real — and the time to act is now.”
