Pier Francesco Moretti Science Policy & Diplomacy | Physicist

Pier Francesco Moretti is a physicist with two PhDs and more than 90 international publications in helioseismology, materials science, marine science, and political science. His research expertise is mainly focused on spectroscopy, data analysis, and innovative technologies.

He has been involved in numerous international projects and governmental boards, working in the USA, Antarctica, Austria, and Belgium. He served as Head of the Office for International Activities at the CNR Department of Earth and Environment and was appointed Scientific Officer for policy support in Brussels. During the Italian Presidency of the European Union, he was Vice-Chair of the Research Working Party of the EU Competitiveness Council.

He designed and currently coordinates an innovative training program on decision-making and negotiation processes (school4sid.cnr.it). He also leads a foresight initiative focused on developing a new generation of materials inspired by living organisms.

More recently, he proposed an observational strategy and experimental setup for the acquisition and analysis of acoustic signals in natural ecosystems and in the brain. He is a member of the oREGano Team, which investigates deviations from randomness in signals associated with end-of-life events.
