Speaker | Writer | Mentor
Mac Macartney is a writer, speaker, and social entrepreneur who has spent a lifetime exploring the edges of culture, spirit, and nature. He is the founder of Embercombe, a 50-acre regenerative centre on the edge of Dartmoor National Park (UK), dedicated to inspiring and empowering people to live in deep relationship with nature and contribute to a flourishing future for all species.
Mac is often described as an elder—curious, humble, and willing to walk into mystery. His teachings are shaped by decades of mentorship from Indigenous elders, and rooted in a spirituality that is practical, numinous, and alive in every sunrise, blade of grass, and story shared. He offers guidance through experiences that touch both the heart and the land.
He co-leads Embercombe’s core programmes (The Journey, The Hearth, and The Twin Trail), which invite people into meaningful transformation and planetary service. A student of life, Mac speaks often of unlearning, of mistakes made and lessons shared with honesty and humour.
He holds an Honorary Doctorate of Education from Plymouth University and received the Enlightened Society Award from Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. He also co-founded leadership consultancies in Poland and Russia and continues to write, speak, and dream new stories into being.
